World-renowned comic book giant Marvel will launch digital collectibles, 3D models and NFT comics later this year.
Disney-owned Marvel Entertainment announced this week that it will launch its first official NFTs later this year via the VeVe Digital Collectibles app.
The company’s press release states that Marvel NFT collections, 3D models and digital comics will be released. Marvel and VeVe did not share any images of the NFTs to be released.
VeVe, owned by Orbis Blockchain Technologies, already works with DC Comics, Marvel’s biggest competitor in the comics industry, and produces collectibles based on popular characters like Batman and Superman. The platform also sells licensed NFTs from brands like Adventure Time, Star Trek, Jurassic Park, and Ghostbusters.
The NFT market reached $1.5 billion in trade volume in the first quarter of 2021 in the most important marketplaces. Sales of unofficial artwork from popular comics artists also attracted a lot of attention. For example, the artist José Delbo earned $1.85 million in revenue from Wonder Woman.
